South Bunbury will host Bunbury on Sunday in one of the most anticipated Derbies in a long time outside of the recent Grand Final, when the two sides meet in the very final home and away match of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League season.
Bunbury heads into the match on top of the ladder, while South Bunbury are fourth, but that can all change on Sunday depending on the result.
The Bulldogs won the most recent contest between the two sides, in what can only be described as attrocious conditions, which saw the match played with wind gusts of up to 80kmph. Sunday’s weather is almost perfect, fine with light winds, which will allow both teams to show case their skills.
A Bunbury victory will see the Bulldogs finish on top of the ladder for the first time since 2020. In that year they lost the second semi final to Busselton, before claiming the premiership over Busselton by five points. Busselton would then host Donnybrook, while the Tigers would host HBL at Hands Oval.
The Tigers though, currently don’t have the luxury of a double chace at finals and sit in a sudden death Elimination Final and the only way out of that predicament, is to beat Bunbury on Sunday, something only Busselton has been able to do this season, back in round two.
Both sides have players in good form and both sides do have injury concerns, which all sides do at this time of the year.
A huge crowd is expected, likely to surpass the 1135 that watched South Bunbury and HBL earlier in the season, and with so much riding on the result, for not only the two sides playing, but Busselton and Donnybrook as well, it is a match not to miss.
