New Coach Has High Expectations For Dons

Donnybrook will start the 2026, Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League Season, with a new coach, and high expectations, as the Dons look to rejoin the finals race, after finishing sixth last season.

After two consecutive years in finals in 2023 and 2024, last season the Dons struggled to keep momentum, and were bundled out of finals contention at the hands of Collie Eagles by one point at VC Mitchell Park.

Cody Leggett has taken over the reigns of the Dons in 2026, having played 72 League Games for East Fremantle and 68 League Games for Perth in the WAFL, giving the side plenty of experience.

“Being new to the South West, I was initially excited to connect with people. But since pre season has been underway, it’s been great to see how invested the men and women are in the club which excites me for the season ahead. I have high expectations for us this season. I know we have what it takes”, Leggett said.

“Every team is the team to beat.  You can’t go out expecting to win, you need to prepare for each game as you would for the teams sitting at the top of the ladder. With that said, I think Bunbury have recruited really well during the off season, so manning up against them will be a good challenge”, he added.

The Dons start their campaign in round two against Augusta Margaret River at Gloucester Park.  After the Easter bye, the Dons face South Bunbury at Hands Oval, with their first home game in round four against Harvey Bulls on Saturday, 18 April 2026.
