Panthers Challenged But Prevail At Kelly Park

Carey Park have defeated Harvey Bulls on Saturday night at Kelly Park by 24 points, in round ten of the SWFL in a high quality match as part of the Dale Alcock Homes South West premiership season.

The Panthers got out of the blocks well, kicking three quick goals and led by 12 points at quarter time.   Both teams traded goals in the second quarter, with both clubs kicking four goals each as the Panthers still led by 12 points at half time.

The Bulls bounded out of the blocks in the third term with Tyson Powell putting the Bulls in front, with both teams kicking very accurately.  The lead was short lived and when the Panthers kicked the next goal, scores were level.   The visitors had numerous opportunities to retake the lead, missing three set shots.  This was compounded further when the Bulls gave away a 100 metre penalty, giving Kelvin Lawrence a goal from the goal line.  Luke Hutchinson was gifted a goal soon after, after the Bulls were penalised for a deliberate rushed behind, giving Carey Park a seven points lead.    The Bulls rallied, but again missed a further two shots at goal, and is almost always the way, the ball went down the other end, Ryan King took a strong mark and goaled, giving Carey Park a 13 point advantage at three quarter time.

The final term saw Carey Park kick the opening goal, effectively shutting out the Bulls as the ball became slippery in the dewy conditions.  Tyson Powell took a very strong mark soon after, but his shot at goal was touched on the line, as the Panthers went on to win by four goals.  The Bulls had more scoring shots than Carey Park, but the Panthers accuracy was telling in the final result.

Carey Park have the bye in round eleven, so finish their first half of the season with six wins and are currently fourth on the ladder.  The Bulls remain in seventh place and next face Bunbury on Saturday at the Harvey Oval.
