Panthers Claim First Win Of The Season

Carey Park claimed their first win of the 2024 Dale Alcock Homes South West premiership season, when they defeated the Harvey Bulls at Kelly Park by 63 points.

Jordan Strahan kicked three of the Bulls five goals.

The Panthers kicked two goals in the opening ten minutes with the Bulls struggling to get the ball forward of centre.  A terrible turnover in the centre of the ground led to the Panthers third, and things again looked ominous for the Bulls, who for the second week in a row, failed to score a goal in the opening quarter.

A goal on the run to Manasseh Milham extended the margin further, as the Bulls continued to struggle getting the ball passed centre half forward.  A spate of behinds followed to the Panthers before Brodie Morris converted a set shot to have the Panthers 44 points in front at the twelve minute mark of the second quarter.  Dean Shore converted a set shot from a 50 metre penalty to kick the Bulls only goal of the half, with Zane Verhaaf, Luke Hutchinson and Bill Brown kicking three goals in three minutes at the end of the term to have the home side 53 points in front at half time.

Brian Hughes opened the scoring in the third, before Jordan Fimmano received a free kick, to give the Bulls their second major.  Jack DiLallo kicked a great goal on the run from deep in the pocket, as the margin became 59 points.  The Bulls put together their best passage of play for the match, with a clean ruck knock, ending with a strong mark and goal to Jordan Strahan without the Panthers touching the ball.

Strahan would have a purple patch, with two strong marks and goals to start the final term as the margin reduced to 40 points, the closest the Bulls had been in nearly a half.  The Panthers would then take charge again, with a great goal from Jamahl Mulholland from long range, with Kelvin Lawrence finishing the match with two goals after receiving a free kick and converting, with the final margin 63 points.

There will be no respite for the Bulls who will face the rampaging Bulldogs at Harvey on Saturday evening, while Carey Park will head to Collie to face the Eagles in the other Saturday evening clash.
