Carey Park have defeated the Harvey Bulls in round three of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League season, when the two teams met at Kelly Park on Sunday afternoon.
In a tight first quarter only two goals were kicked, with Enrique Aiken-Featherstone kicking the first goal after eight minutes. A minute later Matt Martin converted a set shot, with the final twelve minutes yielding just two behinds.
In stark contrast, the second quarter had eight goals, with Brodie Morris kicking the Bulls first goal. Morris who played for Carey Park in 14 games last season, was looking dangerous up forward with his goal reducing the margin to eight points. Jackson Hill kicked a great goal on the run from the pocket to extend the margin back to sixteen points. The Bulls steadied and eventually received reward for effort when Brendan Gotti kicked his first. This started a spate of goals which saw the Panthers kicked four goals in very quick succession to open a 29 point lead at half time.
The third term was all Carey Park kicking six goals to one, bookended by goals to Kelvin Lawrence as the margin ballooned out to 62 points.
The final quarter saw Aaron Jovanovic kick the Bulls fifth goal at the three minute mark, after which time both teams appeared out on their feet, with the final margin being 66 points.
Lawrence was everywhere gaining a stack of possessions, finishing with two goals, while Matt Martin took some strong marks and kicked four goals.
The win puts Carey Park into third place, while the Bulls drop to eighth, one of six teams with one win. Carey Park will commence round four with a clash with Augusta Margaret River on ANZAC day at Gloucester Park, while Harvey Bulls will play Donnybrook at VC Mitchell Park on Sunday, 27 April 2025.
