Panthers Win In Arctic Conditions At Kelly Park

Carey Park have defeated Eaton by sixty one points at an arctic Kelly Park on Saturday afternoon, in round nineteen of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League season.

The Panthers set up the victory in the opening term kicking eight goals to lead by 53 points at quarter time.    Jackson Hill kicked the opening goal within the first thirty seconds of the match, with a goal soon after to Brian Hughes, before Hill kicked his second.  Hill had a purple patch to start the match having four scoring shots in the first ten minutes, before Brian Hughes kicked three goals in seven minutes to finish with four for the quarter.

But after quarter time, the match evened out from a scoring perspective, with both sides kicking six goals each after quarter time.

An incident in the second term caught the ire of the Carey Park players, which led to tempers becoming frayed numerous times, which kept the umpires busy.

In bitterly cold conditions, with the occasional rain squalls, saw the second half still dominated by the Panthers, though they didn’t take full advantage of that dominance in front of goals, kicking four goals, ten behinds in the second half.

Hughes would end up with six goals for the match, while Jaxon Bell again was one of the Panthers best players along with Zane Verhaaf.     Marlion Pickett was a standout for the Boomers and not for the first time this season, took a spectacular mark in the final term.

Eaton will host Collie in round twenty, while Carey Park travel to Busselton for the toughest assignment in the South West Football League, defeating the Magpies.
