Payne Park To Host 2023 Decider

Payne Park will host the 2023 Dale Alcock Homes South West Grand Final after a meeting of the SWFL Delegates this evening, with Kelly Park to host the Women’s Grand Final and Mens Preliminary Final.

It will be just the second time the Grand Final has not been held at Hands Oval, with the other time being in 1960 when a dispute between the City Council and the Bunbury clubs saw no football played in Bunbury at all.  Harvey Brunswick would go on to beat Busselton by 21 points at Brunswick Oval.

The change is based on the renovations to Hands Oval, which will see the existing SWFL Headquarters and the Changerooms demolished with the hand over to the Builder (Perkins) taking place on 21 March 2023, with demolition slated for early April.

The SWFL and the City of Bunbury have been working together to ensure that the Grand Final returns to Hands Oval in 2024 once the new facility is completed.  Hands Oval has long been regarded as the home of football in the SWFL and the return in 2024 will coincide with the completion of the building, with an official opening of the facility to be held to celebrate the long awaited construction, which will be built to level 4 AFL Standards, enabling the venue to host AFLW, AFL Pre-Season and WAFL matches.
