Plenty Of Twist And Turns In Reserves Competition

Despite Harvey Brunswick Leschenault being six games clear at the top of the Reserves Competition in the SWFL, and on a 35 game winning streak, the remainder of the competition remains incredibly close.

South Bunbury remain in second place, despite being beaten by fifth placed Busselton.  As a result Busselton have moved from fifth to fourth.

Bunbury courtesy of their win in a thriller over Harvey Bulls, have moved back to third after starting the weekend fourth.

Collie, who started the weekend sixth, had a 11% boost in their percentage when they easily accounted for Augusta Margaret River, moving the Eagles back to fifth.

Eaton Boomers meanwhile, started the round third, but after a big defeat at the hands of Harvey Brunswick Lescheanult, where they lost 14%, find themselves now sixth.

Meanwhile at the bottom of the ladder, Donnybrook and Augusta Margaret River are separated by 0.15%, with Donnybrook moving from the bottom of the ladder for the first time in many weeks.

The round started with Collie Eagles easily beating the Hawks, with leading Goal Kicker, Luke Abbott kicking five goals to take his tally to 42 for the season.

South Bunbury led at quarter time and half time in their match against Busselton at Sir Stewart Bovell Park, but five goals in the third quarter to Busselton was enough to sink the Tigers by 16 points, which Chris Hutchins kicking four goals.

Matthew Bicknell kicked five, Chris Strano four, and Shannon Sabourne three in the Lions 104 point thumping of Eaton in the third and final game last Saturday.  Kale Triplett was the best player on the ground at the Lions kept the Boomers to just four goals for the match.

Sunday saw a thriller and nearly an upset when Bunbury came from 27 points down at half time to defeat a very unlucky Harvey Bulls.  The Bulls after kick eight goals to half time, managed three behinds in the second half to lose by four points.

In the final match of the round, Carey Park led all day against Donnybrook, with the Panthers having plenty fire power in attack, winning by 42 points.

This weekend will see the table likely to change again, with some crucial matches to be played.

The Hawks and Bulls play on Saturday (2.20pm) with the Hawks desperate to win to stave off a potential wooden spoon, while the Bulls will be looking to atone for the second half fade out against the Bulldogs.

On Sunday, fifth placed Collie will host fourth placed Busselton. If Collie win they could potentially finish the round in second place, and if they lose they could drop back to six.  Similarly a Busselton win could have the Magpies third at the end of the round or six should they lose.

Eaton Boomers (Sixth) will host South Bunbury (Second) at Glen Huon Reserve on Sunday.  With only one game separating the teams, a win will be crucial for both.  If Eaton lose they will be at worst a game outside of fifth place, or at best equal on points with Collie Eagles.  If they win they could move as high as fourth.  A Tigers win will make it harder for the teams below them to make the qualifying final, while a loss will see them become entrenched in the battle for positions.

Bunbury on paper have the easiest match based on ladder positions, but after their near shock loss to Harvey, and Carey Parks strong showing last round, the Panthers are not without a chance of upsetting the Bulldogs apple cart.  A Bunbury loss will see the Black and Golds drop to fourth while a win may see them second but most likely third.  A Carey Park win will see the Panthers just one game outside the five, with a further two games to play.  The match is set to be played at PC Payne Park at 11.05am on Sunday.

In the final game of the round Donnybrook will play Harvey Brunswick Leschenault, and will need to buck all of the odds to topple the rampant Lions.
