Carey Park and South Bunbury will play in Saturday’s Qualifying Final at Kelly Park, with the winner to advance to the second semi final next weekend against Busselton, as the 2023 Dale Alcock Homes South West Finals Series Commences.
The Panthers who finished second on the ladder will have the home ground advantage, and go into the contest having won the round sixteen fixture at the same venue by 25 points. However, South Bunbury did win the round five match against Carey Park by 40 points, so both teams go into the contest knowing they certainly can beat the other.
Both of those matches were played in fine conditions, with the forecast for the Qualifying Final being occasional showers, which may see the ball on the ground a bit more, which will bring the smaller players into the game.
The key match ups will be intriguing, with Leigh Kohlmann showing that he is practically unstoppable regardless of who and how many players are placed on him, and that will be one of Carey Parks main headaches. Conversely, South Bunbury will need to stop the dominant force of Harley Sparks who has had a sensational season and is a big reason why the Panthers have finished second on the ladder.
The midfield battle will be pivotal, with both sides having players in good form, with the prize for the winner being a second semi final against Busselton, in Busselton, while the loser will drop to a first semi final appearance against either Donnybrook or Bunbury.
