South West Get Off To Great Start

The Apprentice & Traineeship Co Colts have got off to the best possible start in the CBH Group Colts Competition at the Nutrien Ag Country Championships, defeating the defending champions Peel Cavaliers by 35 points, at Laine Group Stadium in Mandurah on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier in the day Peel defeated the Great Southern Storm by eight goals in a great display, making it imperative that the South West defeat Peel to be in contention for tomorrows grand final, with the top team from each pool advancing to the decider.

The first half saw Fraser Gilchrist dominate in the forward line kicking two goals as the SWFL took a four goal advantage into the half time break.

In the second half a great passage of play started at half back, with a strong tackle by Lachlan Princi rewarded, followed by a big pack mark by Jake Green, leading to a strong mark in the goal square by Fraser Gilchrist, who converted his third.

Despite leading comfortably on the scoreboard, Peel did a lot of the attacking, with Kade O’Dine chipping in twice with defensive marks, the second leading to a goal to Seann Arrowsmith.

Tom Harris would kick another from beside the behind post, as the South West took the lead to 42 points.

The last kick of the match went to Patric Fitzi of Peel who marked in the goal square, giving Peel their only goal of the match.

The South West play their second match of the Championship at 3.00pm against Pilbara who lost narrowly to Great Southern Storm earlier today.
