South West Into Grand Final After Third Win

The Apprentice & Traineeship Co SWFL Colts team have advanced to this afternoon’s CBH Group, Nutrien Ag Country Championshp Grand Final, after another dominant performance in their final pool match against Great Southern Storm.

The assignment was simple for the SWFL, win and advance to the grand final as the only undefeated team in the pool, or lose by less than 22 points to avoid missing out.

From the opening siren the SWFL dominated the contest with precision passing, putting the Great Southern Storm under constant pressure.  The ball lived in the South West half for the majority of the quarter and when it did go into the defensive zone, the backline were up to the task, and cleared proficiently.

The conditions weren’t ideal, with a couple of rain showers during the two halves, but the ball skills were exceptional from the South West Colts team, as they kept Great Southern scoreless in the first half, with Ryan Babich kicking an excellent goal on the run.

The second half saw the South West kick five quick goals to the Northern end of Sir Ross McLarty Oval, killing the contest.  One late goal was conceded but the margin was immaterial, the win was all that was required.

Coach Brett Maguire was very happy with the performance but reminded the team, the job isn’t yet done, with the Grand Final still to come against an as yet unknown opponent (Pool 2).

Ryan Babich and Ned Gualter played their best games of the Carnival so far, with the Grand Final scheduled for 4.00pm
