SWFL Women Are Country Champions

The Alcoa SWFL Women have won the 2022, Nutrien Ag, Rio Tinto Country Championships, coming from behind to defeat Kimberley in the Grand Final on Friday afternoon at Laine Group Stadium.

For the first time in the Championships, the SWFL did not score a goal in the first half, trailing by six points at the main break.

In the second half, Kate Fielding who had a good Championship put the South West in front by a point, as the match continued to be an arm wrestle.  There is always a moment in a Grand Final which defines the game and it would be a Beth Bond bomb from 45 metres which gave the South West the momentum, which carried on as the match continued.

A defensive error on the goal line allowed Lacey Holdsworth to goal from the line to put the result beyond doubt, and the icing would then be put on the cake by Kate Fielding who kicked her second goal.

South West went through the Championship undefeated and are yet to be beaten in a Country Championship since its inception.  The SWFL team had seven representatives in the All Star team.
