The Hawks Into Back To Back Grand Finals

They haven’t won the Grand Final, but Augusta Margaret River have the upper hand after defeating South Bunbury on Saturday afternoon by twenty points in the Second Semi Final at Gloucester Park, in front of 1076 fans.

The Hawks, buoyed by their Reserves Second Semi Final victory, bounced out of the blocks in the opening quarter, ultimately setting up the victory, with the Tigers left to chase for the remainder of the match.

Harry Taylor opening goal was answered shortly after by Jace Cormack, before Tim Noakes, Oscar Armstrong and Mitchell Payne goaled in quick succession, and in the blink of an eye the margin was 20 points.

Taylor opening the scoring in the second quarter with a snap, extending the margin to 26 points before the Tigers rallied with Jordan Strahan kicking truly.   The margin reduced to thirteen points before the Hawks again kicked a few quick goals and the margin was an even four goals at half time.

Hayden Krikke gave the Tigers faithful a glimmer of hope when he kicked the first goal of the third quarter, however that would be their only goal for the term, and despite keeping the Hawks to a goal as well, the Tigers made no inroads into the margin.

Tom Gorter kicked an early goal for South Bunbury in the final quarter, and a final quarter comeback reminiscent of the week previous against Bunbury was on the cards, but it never eventuated, as the Hawks prevailed by 20 points.

Like the previous two encounters this season, the match was an arm-wrestle, with both teams not scoring heavily.  The Hawks will now have a week off and will play the winner of the Preliminary Final which will be played next Sunday.
