The Lions Put Net Over Sharks

Harvey Brunswick Leschenault have held on against a fast finishing Dunsborough on Sunday afternoon at the Dunsborough Playing Fields, winning by ten points, to notch up their second win of the season.

After defeating Augusta Margaret River the week before, the Lions have won both their games on the road, and started well, kicking the opening two goals of the match against the Sharks.

The Sharks who’s depth is being tested by injury, went into the game without regulars, Zac Burgess, Cameron Dean, Jack Hindle, Shayne Zanetti, Darcy Reader and Brock Thompson, and when Nic Reid went down in the opening quarter with a Hamstring injury, it didn’t look good for the home team.

Held goal-less in the second term, the Lions added two more goals in the second quarter, as Jarrod Humphries continued on his goal kicking spree, to open the margin to 16 points at half time.

Things got even worse for the home team at the start of the third quarter when Mac Candy came off the ground injured as well, but the Sharks dug deep and stayed in the contest with the margin still at 16 points at the final change.

The Sharks rallied in the final term getting within 16 points of the Lions who had kicked two early goals, before Humphries kicked his fifth.  Dunsborough kicked the final two goals of the game, closing to ten points at the final siren.

Jarrod Humphries was again outstanding, kicking 27 goals in 7 games, including 12 in the last two weeks.

The win elevated the Lions above the Sharks on the table, who will next face Collie Eagles on Sunday in Collie, who coming off their own big win, downing the Boomers.  The Sharks meanwhile will be hoping to get some players back from injury when they play Harvey Bulls in Harvey, also next Sunday.
