Tigers And Kohlmann Make Things Difficult For Hawks

Augusta Margaret Rivers hopes of winning this season’s premiership went from bad to worse, after South Bunbury defeated the defending premiers by 34 points at Gloucester Park.

Before a disappointing crowd and a cold winters afternoon, South Bunbury started the better of the two teams, leading by sixteen points at the first break.  It was already clear that Leigh Kohlmann was going to have another big day in front of goals, as he single handedly kicked the Tigers to victory.  Kohlmann, who kicked thirteen goals last Sunday against Collie, would end the day kicking eight goals, four in each half.

The Tigers would lead by 17 points at half time, but the Hawks resistance ended there, with Augusta Margaret River kept scoreless in the third quarter as the Tigers kicked five unanswered goals.  Linc Adams tried valiantly to stop Kohlmann who repeatedly marked and goaled in the third term.

Linc Adams had a tough day, as Leigh Kohlmann kicks eight goals.

To the Hawks credit, they did outscore South Bunbury in the final term, kicking four goals to one, which did make the scoreline look more respectable, but the match was well and truly over at three quarter time, leading by 52 points.  Seve Grantis continued his good form for the Hawks along with Simon Moore, but the Tigers had winners all over the ground, with Kevin Chitty and Ben Horsman, along with Shaun Crane getting plenty of the ball, with Kohlmann marking everything that came his way.

Leigh Kohlmann has now kicked 61 goals for the season, and has twice kicked eight goals in a match, to go with the thirteen goals last round and is on track to kick more goals than anyone in the last decade.

The Hawks will play Harvey Bulls in round fourteen in a match that will potentially eliminate the loser from finals contention.  The Tigers will host Eaton.
