Two Thrillers To Start Netball Season

An intense grand final rematch saw the Busselton Magpies get one up on the Eaton Boomers, holding them off by just two goals.

The tough contest seemed to resemble a tug of war match with both teams matching each other goal for goal throughout the match.

However, late goals from Busselton’s Lisa Millman and Mia Pethybridge in the midst of strong defence and quick passes saw the Magpies walk away with the 43-41 victory.

Elsewhere within the league competition, Bunbury Bulldogs held off a determined Carey Park 31-30 at South West Sports Centre while Saturday’s season opener between South Bunbury and Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault was postponed due to a number of players going into isolation.

This weekend, Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault will host Eaton under the Friday night lights at Leschenault Leisure Centre, Busselton and
South Bunbury will go head to head on Sunday at South West Sports Centre, and Bunbury and Carey Park will have the league bye.

In the Reserves competition, Donnybrook made their return to competition in a big way with a 50-20 win over Mercy-Leschenault-
Collie, Augusta-Margaret River held off Busselton 41-32, South Bunbury defeated HBL 63-33, and Bunbury defeated Carey Park 54-42.
In the Masters competition, South Bunbury held off Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault 44-33, while Eaton Boomers obtained a forfeit win over the Harvey Bulls.

In the 18 & Under competition, Bunbury and South Bunbury kicked off their 2022 campaigns with the Bulldogs smashing Carey Park 64-15, while the Tigers defeated HBL 54-15.

In the 16 & Under competition, Bunbury was the first team to record a win, defeating Carey Park 54-19 in the only scheduled match.
