Who Will Beat The Lions Reserves?

Harvey Brunswick Leschenault extended their Reserves winning run to 34 games, when they thrashed fellow top five contender, Bunbury, at PC Payne Park on Sunday.

The 107 point margin saw Bunbury drop from second to fourth, and now find themselves in a four way battle for second place on the ladder.  Chris Strano had a day out for the Lions kicking seven goals.

South Bunbury moved into second place on the ladder, when they easily accounted for Harvey Bulls by 70 points. Eaton Boomers were also able to increase their percentage, after downing the Collie Eagles by 52 points in heavy going at Glen Huon Reserve.

Carey Park also had a large victory at Kelly Park, defeating Augusta Margaret River by 14 Goals.  Busselton had a 75 point win against Donnybrook at VC Mitchell Park in the final match of the round, in a lopsided weekend of results.

This weekend, fifth placed Busselton will take on second placed South Bunbury at Sir Stewart Bovell Park.  In a crucial match, the victor will solidify their chance for a Qualifying Final berth, with the competition within and just out of the five, going right down to the wire.

Eaton Boomers who are currently third, will face an uphill battle when they travel to Brunswick to take on Harvey Brunswick Leschenault.  After demolishing Bunbury, Eaton would be aware that percentage will be crucial in the final weeks, with there being just 2.99% separating the Boomers and Bunbury on percentage.

Collie Eagles can displace Busselton, Bunbury or Eaton Boomers, should they beat Augusta Margaret River at Gloucester Park on Saturday.  The Eagles have lost to Bunbury and Eaton in the last two weeks and need to win this weekend to have any chance of making the finals.  If the Hawks can win at home, they will not only dent Collie’s finals hopes but save themselves from a possible wooden spoon.

On Sunday, Bunbury will travel to Harvey to take on the Bulls, with the Bulldogs needing to win to stay in the hunt for the qualifying final.  In the final game of the round Carey Park will play host to Donnybrook at Kelly Park.  A win to the Panthers will keep their slim finals chances alive.
