Women’s Semi Finals This Weekend

The Optus Women’s Semi Finals will be played this weekend with Bunbury to play Busselton on Sunday, while Donnybrook and Harvey Bulls will face off in the First Semi Final on Saturday afternoon at Sir Steward Bovell Park in Busselton.

Saturday’s encounter will see Donnybrook play Harvey Bulls, with the last encounter seeing the Dons win 74-0 against a far from full strength Bulls line-up.  Early in the season the Dons won by four points, which is more akin to the score line likely on Saturday.  Donnybrook do have plenty of fire power up forward with Beth Bond coming off a six goal game against Carey Park in round twenty two, Fleur Parker, Charli Wicksteed and Lauren Vecchio have all been playing well.

Rachel Shepherd, Rebecca Fry and Harmony Staszewski-Hose have all had good seasons and will need to get plenty of the ball for the Bulls to have any chance of advancing to the Preliminary Final.

The winner will play the loser of Sunday’s Second Semi Final between Bunbury and Busselton, who have been the two dominant teams in the second half of the season.  The Bulldogs haven’t played in two weeks so will be very fresh, while Busselton are coming off a big win against the Bulls.   Kloe Bassett and Sarina Tassone have regularly played well for the Bulldogs, while Katie-Jayne Grieve has been a dominant player for the Magpies.   Bunbury have won both contests this season by 20 and 17 points respectively, so a close game is again expected.

The prize for the winner is to be in the Grand Final on Sunday, 25 September 2022 at Hands Oval.

Both Semi Finals commence at 1.30pm.
