Work To Do For South West After Opening Loss

The Apprentice & Traineeship Colts Team have lost their opening round match of the Nutrien Ag Country Championships at Lane Group Stadium on Thursday morning, losing to the Northern Suns by 9 points.

The South West were slow out of the blocks in their opening round robin match, with the Northern Suns scoring four of the first five goals of the match.  In the second half the South West showed much more cohesion and narrowed the margin to nine points but a goal at the 17 minute mark of the final quarter to Kane O’Driscoll of the Suns sunk the South West hopes.

Trae Field kicked a goal in the final minute of the match to narrow the margin to nine points, which was crucial for percentage, with the SWFL Colts loss being the closest margin so far.    Jude Mazzucchelli and Billy Boucher were the best players.

Next up the SWFL will play Great Southern Football League who convincingly defeated Regional Districts at 3.30pm, who earlier in the day easily beat the Pilbara, meaning the door is still open for the SWFL to play in the Grand Final, but they will need to win all remaining games to do so.
