Busselton will host Donnybrook in a genuine blockbuster on Saturday, when the two sides meet in the Dale Alcock Homes South West Qualifying Final at Sir Stewart Bovell Park.
The Magpies finished second and Donnybrook third, to set up a much anticipated re-match, with the sides having met only three weeks ago, with the Dons stunning Busselton, keeping them goal-less in the first half, and subsequenly giving them their first and only loss of the season.
Busselton have defeated Carey Park and Collie Eagles since that loss, while Donnybrook are on a six game winning steak, which extends back to June, when defeated by Bunbury by twenty eight points. The Dons haven’t played in fourteen days, having had the bye in round twenty one, and should be close to full strength with Busselton, this time on the Magpies home ground.
Busselton have won six of the last ten contests between the two sides, but it is the last loss that will be firmly in their minds.
The forward line of Busselton is potent, with Liam Creighton kicking 64 goals for the season, while Ryan Ekert has been a regular contributor and when you add in Mitch Cameron, the Magpies have plenty of options. Mitch Tenardi is another key player, having an outstanding season, and if he gets first use out of the middle, Donnybrook may be in trouble.
Colby McDonald was a revelation when the Dons defeated Busselton, kicking six goals, and when you add in Kristian Cary who has kicked 55 goals for the season, along with Zac Trigwell, the Dons forward line starts to look as potent as the Magpies. Sam Perkusich, Mitch Kings and Cody Leggett were all instumental earlier in the month when the Dons downed Busselton, and will be looking forward to a fine day to show their skills on the wide open spaces of Sir Stewart Bovell Park.
The two sides have only ever played in two finals against one another, once in 1997 and the other in 2003, at Kelly Park and Hands Oval, with both teams winning one final each.
The League Match commences at 2.30pm
