Bunbury Hold Top Spot In Colts

Bunbury remain a game clear in the SWFL Colts competition after eleven rounds, after they accounted for third placed Augusta Margaret River on Sunday.

Collie kept their slim finals chances alive when they accounted for Carey Park, closing to within six points of South Bunbury on the ladder, with the two teams set to clash in the next round.

In the game of the round, Bunbury proved too good, leading by eight points at half time, before winning by 31 points.  The Hawks were very wasteful in front of goals, kicking 4.14.38, with Coen Bradshaw returning to the Bunbury team kicking two goals.

Collie Eagles and Carey Park played out an exciting match at the Recreation Ground with the Panthers getting the early advantage, keeping the home team scoreless at the first break.  Both teams kicked four goals each in an even second term, before Collie kicked a further four goals in the third, to lead by two points at three quarter time.   Ayden Parkin and Malek Wallam both kicked four goals for their respective teams.

Harvey Brunswick Leschenault accounted for an under-manned Harvey Bulls outfit in extremely wet conditions at Brunswick, with Busselton kicking four last quarter goals to turn a one point lead into a 28 point win at Glen Huon Reserve.  South Bunbury as expected, easily defeated Donnybrook.

After the Landmark bye, the most crucial clash will be between fifth placed South Bunbury and sixth placed Collie Eagles in what is effectively an early Elimination Final.  If the Tigers win, they will move 10 points clear, if they lose, Collie will close within two points and the battle for the final position in the five will remain alive.

The remaining games will see the top four play the bottom four, which should see ladder positions remain unchanged. Busselton do need to win big against Harvey Bulls to close the gap on percentage to Augusta Margaret River if the Magpies which depose their Southern rivals of third place.  Looking ahead, the Magpies and the Hawks will play each other in round thirteen after the WAFL match, with the winner going along way towards a double chance come September.
