Busselton have emphatically won the Tronox Women’s Grand Final when they defeated Harvey Brunswick Leschenault at Hands Oval on Saturday afternoon by 38 points.
Two weeks ago in the second semi final, the Lions kicked three quick goals against Busselton, but in the Grand Final roles were reversed, with Busselton kicking three goals in the opening eight minutes of the match, to put the Lions on the back foot from the outset.
Mia Van Kleef who had a great game kicked the opening goal, quickly followed by a goal to Sophie Proudfoot and Rennie Meadmore. The Lions started to equalise general play, but a goal to Mia Van Kleef after the quarter time siren would give the Magpies a four goal lead at quarter time.
Proudfoot would kick the only goal on the second term, as the Lions were kept scoreless at half time.
Van Kleef kicked another goal after the siren at the end of the third term, with the Magpies on their way to the 2026 premiership.
The Lions never gave up, with Trinity Brown kicking the Lions first goal seven minutes into the final term. Mia Van Kleef snapped a great goal from deep in the pocket to confirm victory for the Magpies, her fourth of the match, enough to secure the Tronox Medal for best player on the ground.
It the Busselton’s second Women’s Premiership.
