Fast Start Sets Up Lions Victory

Harvey Brunswick Leschenault have won the opening game of round ten in the South West Football League, setting up the victory with seven first quarter goals, against Busselton at Sir Stewart Bovell Park on Saturday night.

Kicking with the aide of a handy breeze, which felt like it was coming from the Antarctic, the undefeated Lions showed signs of brilliance, kicking goal after goal in the opening term, in what looked like being a hopelessly one sided contest.

To Busselton’s credit, they kept the ladder leaders to one behind in the second quarter, kicking five goals of their own to reduce the margin to just twelve points at the main break.

With the temperature dropping well into single digits in the second half, only friends and relations were left to watch, which finally saw a goal at the Eastern End at the ten minute mark of the third quarter, with Aidan Fraser kicking truly.  A minute later he kicked another, as the Magpies got within two goals before the Lions rallied to kick the final goal of the last quarter.

The opening ten minutes of the final quarter saw both teams trade goals, before the Lions flexed their muscle in the final ten minutes, running out winners by 35 points.

The Lions remain undefeated after ten rounds, and will face arch-rivals Harvey Bulls at Brunswick Oval next Saturday night, while for Busselton, they remain in ninth place on the ladder, despite being highly competitive, and they will take on Eaton Boomers at the newly developed Glen Huon Reserve next Sunday.
