Lights Out At Hands Oval

Last Friday nights Colts match between South Bunbury and Harvey Bulls never saw it’s natural conclusion, after the bright lights went out at the 17 minute mark of the second quarter.

The lights went out at 8.30pm and were unable to be re-activated by officials.  Enquiries are currently being undertaken with the City of Bunbury to find out the reasons as to why.

Since the first match for points under lights on Saturday 25 June 1995, it has been very rare for lights to go out during a match, with this just the second match not to be able to be completed.

The most famous match was on Saturday, 30 May 1998 when the lights went out at the Collie Recreation Ground in a match between the Collie Saints and Carey Park during the second quarter.  Collie led the match by two points, and the lights would not re-fire.  This match was originally awarded to Collie but was then three weeks later amended to a draw.  It also occurred before the law was introduced in relation to incomplete matches.
