Southern Derby Saturday!

The Southern Derby between rivals Busselton and Augusta Margaret River will take place at Sir Stewart Bovell Park on Saturday afternoon, in round fifteen of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League season.

Busselton have an unblemished record in 2026 and sit on top of the ladder, while the Hawks have dropped to seventh on the ladder after a series of losses to South Bunbury, Donnybrook and Harvey Brunswick Leschenault.

The Hawks would also like to atone for their last outing against the Magpies, with Busselton keeping the Hawks to their lowest score of all time against their rival, managing just 1.7 (13).

Although on top of the ladder and seemingly flying high, one slip up by the Magpies could see them lose top spot to Bunbury who are on a winning streak of their own, with their only loss at the hands of Busselton.  Meanwhile, the Hawks simply have to take a scalp of one of the teams in the top five if they are to make their way back into the five to play finals.

The match also marks 30 years of involvement of Busselton Toyota, who have sponsored this match between the two sides at both venues with the Magpies having the advantage head to head.

Two players who are in great form include Mitch Tenardi (Busselton) and Jed Spence (AMR), and it will be great to see them apply their craft through the middle on Saturday.   The Hawks will need to stop the supply into the Busselton forward line, with the Hawks conceding almost double the amount of points than Busselton, who have the most miserly defence in the entire competition.

The League Match commences at 2.30pm.
