When One Draw Is Never Enough!

In the last three weeks, the South West Football League has had four draws, three in three weeks in the League fixtures and a draw in the Colts, courtesy of a blackout at Hands Oval.

In the past forty years, never has there been three draws in the qualifying rounds of a season, and never in the history of the SWFL has there been three drawn league games in consecutive weeks, nor has any team drawn in consecutive weeks, which has now occurred with Harvey Brunswick Leschenault.

The record though for most draws in a season has not yet been surpassed, with 1981 being the last year that draws occurred in all three grades for a combined total of five.  Augusta Margaret River would draw with Donnybrook in the League, Carey Park and Collie (Saints) would draw in both qualifying matches in the Reserves, while Augusta Margaret River, Harvey Brunswick, Mines Rovers and Bunbury would all be involved in two draws in the Colts competition.

With still eleven games in each grade to be played this season, there is still plenty of time for that record to be equaled or beaten before the end of the season.

Below are the SWFL records back to 1979 showing all drawn matches.
