Bulldogs Head To Lions Den On Saturday

Bunbury will head to the Brunswick Showgrounds on Saturday to take on Harvey Brunswick Leschenault in a crucial clash for both teams, in round fourteen of the SWFL.

The last time the two teams met, Bunbury defeated the Lions by 15 points, setting up their win in the second quarter, with the Lions doing all of the chasing from that point forward.

Bunbury sit fifth on the ladder, however they have had their bye for the second round, while all of the teams above them still need to sit a week off, so despite being six points behind Carey Park they do have a game in hand, and more importantly they are six points clear of sixth placed Harvey Bulls.  The Lions meanwhile have dropped to eighth place and have four wins for the season, but have proven more than once this season that they are capable of causing an upset, having beaten both the Hawks and Bulls who sit above them on the ladder.

Bunbury who are coming off the bye, have been playing very good football with several players finding good form, with Denholm King, Jesse Gribble and Dylan Heasman all playing well through the middle of the ground, while the twin towers of Matt Martin and Joel Houghton are becoming a handful for opposition players.  Martin who is the all time leading goal kicker, sits on 595 goals, needing just five goals to become the first player in SWFL history to kick 600 goals.

With fine weather forecast, the goal scoring at both ends will be well worth watching, with Jarrod Humphries capable of matching it with the best, and will be a player the Bulldogs will need to watch closely.    Jonathan Fenwick and Zavier Williams continue to be good players for the Lions, along with Luke Bennett and Shaun Norman who have also been in good touch, and will need to get plenty of the ball if they are to stop Bunbury from getting the ball forward to Martin and Houghton.

A ceremony to mark indigenous round will be held prior to the League match which is scheduled to start at 2.40pm.
