Dons Stunning Third Term Sinks Lions

A brilliant third quarter by Donnybrook, has seen the Dons defeat Harvey Brunswick Leschenault by 23 points in the Dale Alcock Homes South West, First Semi Final.

The Dons kicked six unanswered goals in a staggering turn around, which saw the Lions give up a twenty two point lead at the eleven minute mark of the second quarter.

Jarrod Humphries got the home side of to a great start when he ran into an open goal, with Cooper Clarke-Dehring replying within minutes to have scores level after four minutes.   Humphries received a free kick to give the Lions back the lead, which was then extended further when Billy Boucher ran into an open goal.   Although the margin was only ten points the Lions looked in control, with the Dons losing Ben Howlett to a knee injury.

The Lions dominated the second term with goals to Blake Offer and Marcus Jodrell which gave the Lions a twenty two point lead, but the turning point of the match would come shortly after when Chris Atthowe kicked a long range goal, and then received a free kick without the ball going back to the middle, giving the Dons plenty of momentum going into half time, despite trailing by 17 points.

The third term was all Donnybrook, with the ball going into the Lions forward line three times for the quarter, as the Lions backline was put under enormous pressure.   Cooper Clarke-Dehring kicked a goal after a strong mark in the goal square, before Jeff Smith goaled from outside fifty, with Sean Lynch kicking the Dons sixth goal for the term from a set shot.

The Lions desperately needed to kick the opening goal of the term to get back in the match, which Jarrod Humphries provided, giving the home side hope, but that hope diminished when Brandon Jetta kicked a goal late in the quarter, snuffing out the Lions hopes and season.

Chris Atthowe was outstanding for the Dons, while Jordan Falco and Sam Perkusich gained plenty of possessions.  The Dons will now move into a Preliminary Final, and will play the loser of South Bunbury and Bunbury who play in Sunday’s Second Semi Final.
