Donnybrook will face Harvey Brunswick Leschenault in a cut throat Elimination Final on Friday night, in the Optus Women’s Final Series at Kelly Park.
Donnybrook who finished fourth in the Optus Women’s competition, are coming off a big win against Collie Eagles last Sunday, where the Dons kicked their highest ever score. Meanwhile the Lions, who will go into the match as under-dogs, came up against a slick Magpies outfit last Saturday night.
The Lions will need to stop Jess Verbrugge who has run into some hot form, Beth Bond and Lacey Holdsworth if they are to have a chance of advancing further into the finals, with Holdsworth kicking a career high eight goals, while giving off four others.
The Lions have players of their own who have been playing good football, with Giann Evans and Tessa Kongras particularly having good seasons. Clare Brown and Zoe Roberts are the Lions highest goal kickers for the season with seven, but the Lions do have a much bigger spread of goal kickers than Donnybrook, so if the midfield can get it to the forwards, the Lions are a good chance to score.
Donnybrook won the last encounter by 65 points, and rightfully start favourites, with the winner to play the loser of the Qualifying Final between Harvey Bulls and Bunbury.
