Augusta Margaret River defeated the Collie Eagles at the Collie Recreation Ground on Sunday, in round six of the South West Football League, with the Hawks winning by 33 points.
It took five minutes for the first score with Zac Dronow converting a set shot to give the visitors the lead. For the next ten minutes the Hawks peppered the goals, kicking a spate or behinds, before Steven Payne eventually found the major opening to extend the margin to sixteen points. The Eagles eventually went inside 50, with Jayce Fontana goaled on the run before the Hawks missed to more set shots from right in front.
The Hawks asserted their authority at the commencement of the second quarter when they kicked two goals in as many minutes, as the margin extended past five goals. Sam Salmeri gave the home fans so joy when he goaled mid term to reduce the margin. Linc Adams was outstanding for the Hawks, mopping up many forward attacks by the Eagles.
Gary Moss started the scoring in the third quarter, but Jayce Fontana converted soon after and when the Eagles goaled again, the margin was reduced to 24 points. Late goals to the Hawks including one on the run to Dronow had the margin at 38 points at the final change.
It could easily have got out of hand in the final term for the Eagles, but to their credit they fought the game out well, outscoring the Hawks in the final term, which would have please Coach Kade East.
Augusta Margaret River will host Harvey Brunswick Leschenault next Saturday in round seven, while Collie Eagles will have the bye.
