Tigers Clinical In Win Over The Hawks

South Bunbury remain undefeated in the Dale Alcock Homes South West premiership season, after defeating Augusta Margaret River by 65 points at Hands Oval on Saturday afternoon.

It took the Tigers two quarters to find the form they displayed last week against Dunsborough, but they would kick nine goals to two in the second half to set up the win.

The opening term was an entertaining one, with five lead changes.  Matt Bannister opened the scoring for the Hawks from a set shot at the six minute mark, with Kevin Chitty kicking a great goal three minutes later, after marking an goaling on the run to open the Tigers account.   Bodhi Nordahl kicked a floater which somehow went through the goals to give the home side a greater advantage, only to lose the lead again, when Matt Vardanega kicked a goal from deep in the pocket to give the Hawks back the lead.   A chain of handballs underneath the imposing grandstand on the wing, ended with Kade Wallrodt who converted to give the Tigers the lead again.  A free kick late in the quarter to Brayden Jones took the lead to eleven points at quarter time.

Richard Bourne goaled on the run early in the second, as the Tigers margin extended to 17 points, but the Hawks hit back hard with quick goals to Kieran Yakas and Vardanega from the goal line, narrowing the margin back to seven points.  Goals to Ethan Nordahl and Wallrodt with another end to end play saw the home side three goals in front at half time.

The second half belonged to the Tigers, with Jace Cormack kicking six goals in the second half as the Tigers comfortable accounted for the young Hawks.  Key defender and club captain, Linc Adams went off with rib injuries sustained in a marking contest which didn’t help the Hawks in defence.

The Tigers now sit 2-0 while the Hawks are 0-2.  Next Sunday the Tigers will play Donnybrook at Boyanup Oval, while the Hawks will play Eaton at Gloucester Park, also on Sunday.
